Skiing Adventure

So all 20 something of us headed over to Red River, NM Ski Resort over Presidents day weekend. Everything went smooth and our trip would have been injury free if it wasn't for Danny G's hyperextension of his elbow. That's what he gets for trying to hit a 20' jump on his first ski trip. Actually he was doing well and the mountain just got the best of him. Anyhow, we started the trip off well and got out of OKC on Friday around 9am CST. We arrived in the mountains around 6:30 Mountain Time. So it took us around 9 1/2 to 10 hours to get there. As soon as we reached the top we knew something was wrong with Abby. Altitude sickness. She was complaining with a stomach ache and once we got our stuff into the Condo she hurled everything up. I didn't think a child’s stomach could hold that much. Anyhow, after she got everything up we went out to get a bite to eat. We ended up meeting up with everybody at some Italian restaurant. Abby slept through the whole meal and it only took us about an hour and a half to get seated with a party of 21. The next day both Abby and I spent the day on the slopes. We put Abby through ski school and she loved it. Her, Chandler, Noah, Juliana and Ashley had a wonderful time learning how to ski. It was too cute. They taught them how to snow plow (or pizza, is what they called it). They also taught them how to get on and off the lifts. I think Abby only got pulled off the lift once, and that happened to be by Noah. Anyhow. They spent most of the day in school so I had some time to explore the mountain. It was rather nice. The mountain was not as high as many others but it was presentable. I opted out of snowboarding and stuck to skiing so I could be with the kids and keep up with the skier’s. Well I spent the majority of the time with the kids and it was great. After a little exploring I was back to Abby and she was brave enough to go down the yellow lift. It was a small face that would usually scare the dickens out of her but she went through it. The next day it was time for the whole family to get out. Cheryl, me, Jillian and Abby all hit the slopes. Abby was already ready to go. Jillian was a little weary about getting down the hill the first couple of times but soon she was just telling me to, "Let Go Daddy!" So, I let her go and SWOOSH she went flying down the bunny slope. Both her and Cheryl spent a half day on the slopes and Abby and I spent the entire day. Cheryl and Jillian both had a good time but a half day was all Jillian could handle. So, I decided to take Abby up to the top of the mountain. I wanted her to experience the most out of the ski trip that she could. So with her between my legs we took our run down the mountain. She was mad because Daddy had to stop about four times. After a whole bottle of water and 45 minutes later we were back at the base and we had to rest for about an hour to get up enough energy to get back out again. I have never had a workout like that before. The whole trip went down great. We even had a wonderful little service at our lodge on Sunday evening. It was an intimate setting and we even had some visitors that the Tindle’s and the Deans knew over to our cabin. They were from Ada, I believe and happened to be skiing the same weekend that we were. So with around a service of 30 people (including children), we managed to take the bread and cup. We also sang some nice songs and ended the service up with Mike talking about Humility. It was great. Even though I caught Lara Dean chugging the grape juice after the service. All in all I think that the trip went down well and I know that the kids will definitely remember most of it. Thanks to all who planned out the trip!

Sounds like a wonderful trip. Jeanise's brother took me snowboarding in Alb., NM about a year ago... 6'6" guys and skinny snowboards just don't go together. That's a long way for a tall guy to get up off the ground. I'm sticking to skiing...
